From Boljun, your eye keeps returning to Učka. The village, the valley and the mountain belong to the same composition, yet they offer very different ways to spend a day. A gentle walk among houses does not require the same preparation as a mountain route.

Begin by looking. Notice how the light changes the contours beyond the village and how the cultivated valley gives way to a larger landscape. There is no need to turn every view into a journey.

If you do continue into Učka Nature Park, make a deliberate choice. Vela Draga offers a distinctive limestone landscape; the park also has marked routes for different interests. Consult official visitor information for access, conditions and an appropriate route.

Return with enough daylight for the road, and with time to enjoy Boljun from another angle. Sometimes the most satisfying landscape journey is one that starts and ends in the same small square.
